Dancy and Woods family papers, 1836-1940.

This collection consists of a few business papers of David Y. Dancy, William R. Dancy's letter book and scrapbooks concerning the activities of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a few Dancy and Woods personal items, and photographs. Of special interest are the scrapbook of Roger S. Woods pertaining to Savannah social life in the late 1890s and early 1900s and the autobiography of Phyllis Melissa Green, an African American woman of her great-grandfather, Halle Salassie, her grandfather, Harie Walpole, her parents, William Bellinger (formerly William Salassie Walpole) and Rachel Holmes Bellinger, and of herself.

David Yulee Dancy (ca. 1848-1913) was a native of Florida and a cotton factor in Savannah. He married Julia Wilhelmina Remshart. William Remshart Dancy (1877-1960), son of D.Y. and Julia W. Remshart Dancy, was born in Savannah. He received his early education in Savannah schools and in Pantops Academy in Charlottesville, Virginia.
